On this app we can come together in voice to brainstorm strategies, strengthen ties, build bridges and make personal commitments toward mobilizing our communities for change!

AshaKiran, which translates to a "ray of hope" is a non-profit organization that offers free ‘culturally competent’ services in 49+ languages throughout Alabama serving diverse communities.

AshaKiran’s annual Cultural Competency in Crisis Intervention (CCCI) workshop is open to the public, however, is primarily intended for first-responders (health professionals, counselors, social workers, advocates, law enforcement & the legal community). This training addresses the contexts and dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault & family violence, the community norms that influence attitudes towards abuse and build on this understanding to identify culturally competent interventions that mitigate barriers and address the needs of Asian survivors.

2017 AK CCCI Workshop sponsors include Huntsville Hospital, UAH Office of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs, Womens and Gender Studies at UAH, Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender Based Violence (API-GBV).

Chic Dabby will be the keynote speaker for its 2017 annual workshop. Ms. Dabby is the Executive Director of the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence (API-GBV). She served as Director of the Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence from 2001-2013.
